Oral Presentation Resources
We will be following a strict schedule in order to allow all of our accepted abstract authors time to present. Therefore we ask that you rehearse your presentation prior to the symposium and plan to follow the presentation times below very closely. During your presentation you will be given notification when your alotted time is almost complete:
Oral Presentation: 12 minutes total (8 minute presentation/ 4 minute questions)
Please utilize a widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) powerpoint template to optimize your presentation for viewing at the symposium. Make sure to use standard fonts to avoid formatting issues when your poster is displayed at the research symposium.
Oral presentations are due by Monday April 8th.
Tips for oral presentation
Be Engaging: Include content that will grab your audience’s attention early. Interesting facts or images, a reflective question asked to the audience, or even a short video clip can work well to hold your audience’s focus. Memorable moments within a presentation can help attendees recall your talk above others.
Be Organized and Concise: When developing your slides, make sure your presentation has a clear and logical flow to it, from introduction to conclusion. Establish your key points and clearly define their importance and impact in a concise, digestible manner.
Include Take-Home Points: Speakers should briefly summarize the key findings and state your conclusion—ensure that your conclusion is fully supported by the data in your presentation. If possible, provide recommendations or actions to help solidify your message. What do you want the audience to remember?
AVOID slides full of text or busy tables
